Ways To Stop Making Excuses

As humans, we tend to make excuses and it is a natural human response. Most of us care about what others think about us and thus, we want to fit in. So we try making excuses and avoid responsibility rather than facing uncomfortable feelings and conversation.

People making excuses can be traced back to one of three reasons. Those reasons are:

Fear

Uncertainty

Lack of purpose.

Fear:

When someone is afraid to fail they may make excuses about going after their dreams, about working to achieve their dreams. When someone lacks confidence or has self-doubt they may make excuses about their health or weight. This fear can come in many forms. It may be hard to stop making excuses and face your fears but it is possible. It is possible to overcome your fears and stop making excuses.

Uncertainty:

Human beings have six human needs that drive our decisions. And one of the most powerful needs is a certainty. We want to avoid pain and try out things that can bring us pleasure. And the reason it is so tempting to pick up bad habits and stay in your comfort zone. When we have to deal with situations that we are not certain about then our brain prefers making excuses over dealing with uncertainty. But, you can overcome this too.

Lack of purpose:

People may assume that those who make excuses are lazy, uninspired, and apathetic but it can be because they haven't discovered their purpose yet. They may not be lazy yet they have goals that do not inspire them. When you focus on your passion and start living a life of meaning, without any external force you will naturally stop making excuses. You will realize that there exists no room for excuses.

It is common for humans to make excuses but if these excuses start interfering with your daily life and prevent you from reaching your goals, it is important to learn how to stop making excuses. Here are some ways to stop making excuses:

Learn to take responsibility:

First of all, understand that you alone cannot control your destiny and this is how you stop making excuses. No matter how your past was, your future is up to you. Your past cannot define your future unless you decide to live in the past.

Overcome your limiting beliefs:

If you are someone who makes excuses maybe you have certain limiting beliefs that are holding you back. These limiting beliefs are the stories we tell ourselves about what we can do, and who we are and if you believe that you don't deserve success or you don't have the inner strength to overcome failure, you will keep on making excuses to avoid going after what you really want in life.

Try to find the lesson:

Try to identify your mistakes and determine what really went wrong because people who make excuses don't bother to look closely at their mistakes. It may happen that they blame others and never learn the valuable lessons that failure provides. Look for the lessons in your failure and apply it to future decisions as this is what successful people do.

Take actions:

One of the top traits of great leaders and an essential skill for everyday life is the ability to make tough decisions. In order to stop making excuses, you must take action and stop overthinking, let go of the past and start taking massive actions.

Identify negative self-talk and change the story:

Identify negative self-talk and replace it with positive thoughts, with empowering ones. Change your words and you will be able to change your life.

Shift your perspective:

Try looking at problems as opportunities, not obstacles, look at them as opportunities to grow, to be stronger. Whatever has happened to you has brought you where you are today. Either keep making excuses or transform your life. The decision lies in your hand.

Set your vision:

What is that one thing that makes you jump out of the bed each day feeling excited and energetic? What do you really want in life? Create a powerful vision that you want to work on and you will stop making excuses.

Follow these and you may find ways to stop making excuses.
