Types Of Narcissism That You Need To Know

Updated: Dec 10, 2021

Narcissism is a disorder where a person feels gratified from egoistic admiration of self-image. A narcissist is someone who has an inflated sense of self-importance. It is found more in men as compared to women. The common trait of a narcissist is that they lack empathy, can be controlling and are emotionally cold. Utopia Life Coach has come up with four primary types of narcissism.

Classical Grandiose Narcissism:

They are arrogant, validation-seeker, attention-seeker extroverts who don’t stop to listen to anybody. Their vanity and boldness at times can be obnoxious and shameless. They are exploitative, self-absorbed, aggressive, authoritarian, entitled, and callous. They want others to see them as the smartest and are overconfident about themselves who are ready to exploit anyone for their personal gain. They are unempathetic individuals who highly think of themselves but will spare no disdain for others.

The Communal Narcissism:

They are the ones who need a lot of recognition. They lack empathy for those whom they help as they brag more than they have done. “I have done this or I am above them as I have helped them” are some of the sayings or behavior of a communal narcissist. They value relatedness, agreeableness, and warmth. They want to be seen by others as the most supportive and trustworthy person and want to achieve kindness and friendliness by this. They are outgoing and want to be seen as the most helpful person or the most giving one.

Malignant Narcissism:

They are far more problematic than Grandoise’s narcissist. Their behavior is considered to be at the extreme end of the continuum of narcissism because of their aggressiveness and cruelty. They are immoral, sadistic, and paranoid. These people find pleasure in taking others down or creating chaos. They are really mean and lack empathy for all types of awful things like lying, cheating on someone or stealing. They are related to psychopaths and far from or say aren’t necessarily grandiose, neurotic, or extroverted.

Covert Narcissism:

They are less known as they are the covered ones, even known as the vulnerable narcissist. They crave importance, admiration and lacks empathy. They will blame others for their actions or the world for being not successful or that life has done them wrong. They are passive-aggressive and always victimize themselves or say have a victim mentality. They hold grudges and they envy others. They feel like the world never got their greatness.
