Major Causes Of Failures In Leadership

Updated: Feb 1, 2022

Not willing to provide humble service:

Great leaders will do any kind of labor which they may ask others to do when occasion demands. Great leaders are those who don’t hesitate to give helping hands whenever the situation demands.

Expectations of pay from the knowledge or things they know than what they do with that knowledge.

Inability to organize details:

An efficient leader is able to organize and master the details, no great leader is ever too busy to do anything which may be required of him in his capacity as a leader. If a man is too busy to change his plans or give immediate attention to any emergency he admits his inefficiency, be it a leader or a follower.

Fear of competition especially from employees:

If a leader starts fearing that one of his followers may take away his position sooner or later, he may never be able to train his followers to the fullest. Without fearing he should train his followers and only then he will be able to multiply himself and prepare himself to be at many places and give attention to a number of things at one time. And it is known that a person could possibly earn more for their ability to make others perform than they could possibly earn by their own efforts. And that is why an efficient leader through his knowledge and experience will help his followers render more and provide better services than they could ever without his help.

Selfishness:

A leader who claims all the credit for the hard work done by his employer is sure to be met by resentment. Because a truly great leader claims none of the honors of the work done by his followers because most men will work for appreciation and recognition than they will work for money.

Lack of imagination:

Without imagination, it is almost difficult for a leader to meet emergencies and create plans by which to guide his followers efficiently.

Disloyalty:

Lack of loyalty is a major cause of failure not only in leadership but in every aspect of life. A leader who is not loyal to his associates, his followers, cannot maintain his leadership for long. Disloyalty brings down a person to the lowest level.

Intemperance:

Followers will hardly respect an intemperate leader. Intemperance destroys endurance and the vitality of all who indulge in it.

Emphasizing more on authority than on leading:

A person who demands respect or emphasizes more on the title won’t get the respect desired because respect is earned. And he should know that the competent leader requires no title to give him the respect of his followers. The door of the office of those genuine leaders is open to all those who wish to come in and his working quarter is free from formality.
