Fenugreek is an herb that is used as a spice for cooking that offers some health benefits. Fenugreek seeds are an herbal medicine believed to prevent or treat a wide range of health conditions like obesity, diabetes, menstrual cramps, and an enlarged prostate. It has always been used for centuries as a substance that can stimulate the production of breast milk.

May prevent diabetes:

Fenugreek seeds appeared to slow the absorption of carbohydrates including sugars in the intestines stated a study published in the Nutrition Journal. This helps to improve blood glucose control.


However, the review noted that the results varied significantly and needed more pieces of evidence.


A study published in the Journal of Diabetes and Metabolic Disorders concluded that fenugreek may slow the progression of prediabetes to diabetes


Helps in breast milk production:

Fenugreek has been used as a remedy for stimulating breast milk production. The presence of certain substances in fenugreek is thought to have a similar action to the female hormone estrogen.


A 2011 study in the Journal of Complementary and Alternative Medicine found that breast milk volume was significantly higher in nursing people who were given fenugreek tea compared to people who were given a placebo tea.


May treat or prevent menstrual cramps:

Fenugreek seeds are used in order to avoid or treat menstrual cramps.


However, it needs more evidence to support the use of fenugreek seeds for menstrual pain.


Fenugreek is used as fresh and dried, even its leaves, roots, and twigs are used as a spice, flavoring agent, and supplement.
